Does the Crowd System use Unreal Engine's 'Mass Crowds' System?
No. A very simple, lightweight solution has been created to handle crowd rendering, logic, and networking. Legacy Prototyped in 2020 on the Unity engine. The same baseline techniques are be used to render mass crowds of characters with animation.

Level of Difficulty
There are no static or standard difficulty settings. Difficulty is determined by the player's input skill, preparation and equipment, as well as knowledge of the game's systems. The closest options to traditional difficulty settings are: Player Crosshair — enabled or disabled. FPS Only mode

Playtesting (Legacy)
In 2024 to early 2025 a playtest had been conducted to collect feedback around the game's core movement and combat mechanics. The play test was conducted into two, timed Phases - Phase 1 and Phase 2. This was a very basic build in a Pre-Alpha state that is no longer available. You'll find that all of the gameplay spread around on YouTube is from this older build. The third phase is still planned with the main focus of multiplayer testing.

Status of the Unreal Engine 5.8 Upgrade?
The upgrade to Unreal Engine 5.8 has already completed ! The upgrade was completed in the same month that it was announced - in Devlog #41. Note: There will still be ongoing testing, but the heavy lifting has been done.

Early Access Game World Play Size - Planetary Terrain
The feature for Planetary terrain is still in early development. Current information regarding the game world play size is not 100% concrete, but the progress so far on terrain has helped estimate what can be expected for Early Access. Early Access will likely feature either a smaller-scale planet or a limited section of a larger planet. This way, the planetary-scale environment can be tested along with foliage, entities, and core systems, as a performance benchmark - With th

Does the Game Use Asset Packs?
Currently beta decay uses the following Unreal Engine Frameworks - 2 Main Points: Locomotion System The game uses an extremely modified version of the ALS locomotion system. Which is a very popular free movement system for Unreal Engine. “Extremely modified” is probably an understatement. The locomotion system alone has taken years of customization to get everything feeling and looking the way it does today. In the future I will post a brief video of the baseline ALS locomot

How Extensive is the Key Re-binding?
Within the Settings > Controls menu, every game Input function has the ability to be re-mapped to either a Keyboard, Mouse, or Gamepad button. There are also two additional settings regarding Look Sensitivity and Smoothing.

Does the game uses mandatory TAA/DLSS?
These graphical features are force-disabled by default, and there are no plans to make them optional. Many systems were designed with a pixelated visual style in mind, including font sizes, image scaling, and overall readability. For example, Terminal font sizes and display screens were carefully chosen based on what remains readable from specific in-game viewing distances.

Rotoscope Studios - A Brief History - Timeline - Previous Projects
Prior to the inception of beta decay, game development has been an on-and-off hobby of mine. I’ve worked on countless small hobby projects over the years. None of them were crowdfunded or intended to be professional releases, nor did they have any significant following —they were side projects that helped me develop my creative skills throughout my schooling and early career. Because of that, there were little to no expectations attached to them. They came from a simple passi

Is there a Risk of Scope Creep?
The overall scope of Beta Decay has been well defined for many years and is reflected in the project Roadmap . Scope creep occurs when a project expands beyond its original goals due to the continuous addition of new features. One of the primary purposes of the Roadmap is to help prevent scope creep by maintaining a clear and focused project scope. Changes will inevitably occur throughout development - This is an expected part of the process - such changes may result in the r

Can you configure multiplayer server settings and parameters?
Yes. Additional configuration settings may also be added over time. However, I don’t expect there to be more than a small set of server settings. The goal is to provide a standard core multiplayer experience where the player's themselves are the unique factor that dictate how the server turns out. The current configuration is as follows: Configuration Settings: Allow TPS LAN Password Potential Future Settings (Mostly Performance Based): Adjustable Max player count Adjustable

Will there be Single-Player Campaigns?
No. The game is presented as a single world sandbox.

MacOS Availability?
Throughout Early Access, it is likely that time will be dedicated to get things working on MacOS. The capabilities to build on MacOS are there, it's just a matter of dedicating time to get the game running on other platforms. Initial versions of the game during Early Access will be released on Windows.

How many players can be in a multiplayer server/game?
In the current stage of development, it is too early to determine the player count per server. A more definitive answer will be provided later in development, after further testing. The player count will depend on machine performance and network stability.
