Fan Policy

Thank you for supporting beta decay. It is exciting to see the creativity of the community and fan-made projects inspired by the game. This policy explains what is allowed and what is not when creating fan content.

In most cases, using beta decay, artwork, videos, music, characters, logos, and other intellectual property ("beta decay IP") without permission is not allowed and may violate rights of Rotoscope Studios LLC. This Fan Content Policy explains what you may and may not do when creating fan content.

In this Policy, "Fan Content" means your personal, non-commercial creations such as (i) fan art (including artwork, screenshots, videos, photography, and similar works) based on beta decay IP; and (ii) websites or applications related to beta decay that are freely accessible to the public.

Please read this Policy carefully before creating any Fan Content. This Policy may be updated at any time by posting a revised version. If changes are made, previously created Fan Content must be updated where necessary to remain compliant.

Section 1 – General Rules

1.1 Permission to Create Fan Content

You may create Fan Content based on beta decay provided you follow this Policy. Any content that violates these rules is not permitted.

1.2 Scope

This Policy applies to beta decay IP accessed through the website, website archives, builds, devlogs, any official postings by Rotoscope Studios LLC, and/or official terms, licenses, or agreements. If you access or use the game under those terms, your Fan Content is covered by this Policy.

1.3 Content Standards

Fan Content must be appropriate for the intended audience of beta decay and consistent with the tone and spirit of the game. It must comply with applicable laws, respect the rights of others, and must not be obscene, sexually explicit, defamatory, offensive, or harmful.

1.4 Non-Commercial Use

Fan Content must be created for non-commercial purposes. You may not use Fan Content to generate direct revenue or commercial profit.

As a limited exception, individual creators may monetize video platforms (such as YouTube or Twitch) through standard advertising or platform monetization features.

In addition, you may accept voluntary donations strictly to help cover reasonable costs of operating a fan site or community (such as hosting or maintenance), provided no paywalls, exclusive paid content, or commercial services are offered. All other rules in this Policy must still be followed.

Any donations made are strictly voluntary contributions intended only to support the operational costs of the fan-made website. Such donations are not connected to, endorsed by, or in any way affiliated with beta decay or Rotoscope Studios LLC.

1.5 Revocation of Permission

We may revoke permission to create or distribute Fan Content at any time, for any reason, at our sole discretion.

1.6 No Endorsement

You must not imply or state that your Fan Content is official, endorsed, or approved by beta decay, Rotoscope Studios, or its creators.

1.7 No Exploit Content

Fan Content may not include or promote cheats, hacks, or exploits for beta decay or any other game.

1.8 No Confusion with Official Content

You must not create Fan Content that could reasonably be mistaken for official beta decay material. Websites, apps, or communities must clearly indicate they are unofficial.

1.9 No Harmful Use

You may not use beta decay IP in any way that is derogatory, damaging, or harmful to the reputation, brand, or goodwill of beta decay and/or Rotoscope Studios LLC.

1.10 Required Disclaimer

All Fan Content must include the following disclaimer (or similar) where appropriate with the goal of indicating that content is fan-made and are not affiliated with or endorsed by the creators of beta decay:

“This website and its content are fan-made and are not affiliated with or endorsed by the creators of beta decay.”

1.11 Use of Names, Logos, and Marks

If you use any beta decay names, logos, or trademarks:

They may only reference the game itself
They may not be used to brand your own project or identity
They must not suggest official status or affiliation
You may not alter logos or create modified versions
You may not register domain names that are confusingly similar to beta decay or its official presence

Section 2 – Legal Agreements

Your use of beta decay IP is also subject to any applicable Terms of Service, end user license agreements, or other agreements you have entered into with us. Those agreements govern your use of beta decay and include important legal terms, including but not limited to limitations of liability, warranty disclaimers, and dispute resolution provisions, which remain in full force and effect.

Section 3 – Mods

If beta decay supports modding, mods must follow any additional mod-specific rules provided. This Policy does not override or replace any official modding license or agreement.

Section 4 – Do Not Send Ideas

Please do not send unsolicited Fan Content, ideas, or game concepts. They will not be reviewed or accepted.

Section 5 – Enforcement

We reserve the right to take action, including legal steps if necessary, against misuse of beta decay IP or violations of this Policy.

Section 6 – Fan Translations

6.1 Permitted Translations

Fan translations of publicly available written content are permitted under this Policy, provided that they comply with the requirements below.

This permission is intended to allow fans to make such content accessible to communities that may not speak the original language.

6.2 Limited License

Subject to continued compliance with this Policy, Rotoscope Studios LLC grants a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable, and revocable license to create and distribute qualifying fan translations of Permitted Content solely for non-commercial fan-content purposes.

No ownership of or other rights in Rotoscope Studios LLC's intellectual property are transferred or granted except for the limited permission expressly stated in this Policy. No rights shall be implied or granted by inference.

6.3 Unofficial Status

All fan translations must be clearly identified as unofficial and fan-made. They must not imply that they are official translations, official localizations, or produced, approved, or endorsed by Rotoscope Studios LLC.

Where reasonably possible, fan translations should include a notice stating that the translation is unofficial and has not been reviewed, approved, or endorsed by Rotoscope Studios LLC.

Rotoscope Studios LLC's failure to request correction or removal of a fan translation does not constitute approval, endorsement, or authorization beyond the permission expressly granted under this Policy.

6.4 Scope of Permission

“Permitted Content” means publicly available written materials published by Rotoscope Studios LLC, limited to development update posts, news posts, and announcements.

This permission applies only to Permitted Content. It does not constitute permission to translate, localize, reproduce, modify, extract, distribute, or create derivative works from the Game or its assets, including game text, dialogue, scripts, localization files, source files, artwork, audio, video, or other Game assets, unless authorized by Rotoscope Studios LLC separately in writing. No permission is granted to use any Game asset or other Rotoscope Studios LLC intellectual property except as expressly permitted by this Policy.

6.5 Attribution and Original Content

Translators must credit Rotoscope Studios LLC and, where reasonably possible, provide a link to the original content. The translation should make clear that it is based on an original publication by Rotoscope Studios LLC.

Fan translations must not be presented as original works of the translator or as content created independently of Rotoscope Studios LLC.

6.6 Accuracy and Integrity

Fan translations should reasonably reflect the meaning, context, and intent of the original content. Translations must not intentionally misrepresent statements made by Rotoscope Studios LLC or substantially alter the meaning of the original material.

6.7 Non-Commercial Use

Fan translations must be made available free of charge. They may not be sold, placed behind a paywall, licensed or sublicensed as a commercial product, or otherwise monetized specifically as a translation.

6.8 Third-Party Content

This permission applies only to content owned or controlled by Rotoscope Studios LLC. It does not grant permission to reproduce, distribute, or translate third-party material that may appear within our content, including artwork, photographs, music, quotations, or other copyrighted material belonging to third parties.

Translators are responsible for obtaining any permissions required for third-party material they reproduce or distribute in connection with their translation.

6.9 Use of Names, Logos, and Marks

Translators may identify the Game and Rotoscope Studios LLC as necessary to accurately describe the source material. However, the names, logos, trademarks, and other branding must not be used in a manner that suggests sponsorship, partnership, affiliation, or official approval of the translation or translator.

No trademark license is granted under this Policy except for the limited right to refer to the Game and Rotoscope Studios LLC as permitted by this section.

6.10 Corrections and Removal

Rotoscope Studios LLC reserves the right to request corrections, modifications, or removal of a fan translation if it is inaccurate, misleading, infringing, or otherwise violates this Policy.

Rotoscope Studios LLC may also revoke permission for a particular translation at any time. Upon receiving such a request, the translator must promptly cease the relevant use and, where requested, remove the affected material from locations under the translator's control.

6.11 No Transfer of Intellectual Property Rights

This policy grants limited permission to create and distribute qualifying fan translations. It does not transfer ownership of Rotoscope Studios LLC's intellectual property or grant any broader license or rights beyond those expressly permitted by this policy.

6.12 Responsibility for Fan Translations

The translator is solely responsible for their translation, its associated materials, and their manner of distribution, including ensuring compliance with applicable laws, platform rules, and this Policy.

To the extent permitted by applicable law, Rotoscope Studios LLC is not responsible for the translator's acts, omissions, statements, representations, or other content associated with their translation.

6.13 No Official Review or Warranty

Permission to create or distribute a fan translation does not mean that Rotoscope Studios LLC has reviewed, verified, approved, or endorsed the translation. Fan translations are created and distributed by their creators at their own risk and responsibility, subject to applicable law. To the extent permitted by applicable law, Rotoscope Studios LLC makes no representation or warranty regarding their accuracy, completeness, quality, or fitness for any particular purpose.
